2nd Takakura Network Meeting (05/27/2014)

New members are here!

It has been a month since our members gathered together to share the status of Takakura Network activities.

At the beginning of this meeting, we have introduced our new members of TCN. From Waste Management Authority. We have welcomed following 2 local authorities and local 1 NGO:

- Homagama pradeshiya Sabha
- Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha
- SAWARNA HANSA FOUNDATION (NGO)

All new members were new to Takakura composting method yet they were very excited to hear about this amazing composting method!

After all, who could say no to composting method with benefits of:

1. Sanitary composting environment
2. Shorter time to create compost
3. Easy to start composting!

Also this month, each member LA will start measuring of household waste.  Each LA has selected several houses for monitoring activities.  And each selected family will receive a Takakura Composting workshop and a startkit to start Takakura Composting at home.

The most exciting moment of this meeting was to select a brand logo for Takakura Composting in Sri Lanka!
JICA PC Volunteer Mr. Yoshihide Hibino has created several designs of Takakura Composting. As a team, TCN member had voted and selected below logo as our Sri Lanka Takakura Composting brand icon!

We are hoping to see more smiles while we continue to introduce Takakura Composting in Sri Lanka. And hoping that Sri Lankan people will be familiar with our new logo someday!

1st Takakura Network Meeting (04/21/2014)

The first meeting of “Sri Lanka Takakura Composting Network” was held on April 21st 2014. This is a joint project created by National Solid Waste Management Support Center (NSWMSC) and JICA Environmental Education (EE) volunteers.

The purpose of this project is to show the benefits of organic composting at the household level. 7 local authorities were selected to be members of this project. They will be collecting composting data from sample households and measure the benefits of "Takakura" composting method.

With a smile on their face, each member has acknowledged that they are the  “seeds” of “Takakura” composting in Sri Lanka.
